Pilot transfer arrangement deficiencies rose from 197 cases in 2020 to 523 in 2024, including D-shackle use, unsecured ladders and poor maintenance.
Recent Port State Control (PSC) inspections show that deficiencies have risen sharply, from 197 cases and 1 detention in 2020 to 523 cases and 12 detentions in 2024. Issues include the use of D-shackles for securing the pilot ladders, unsecured pilot ladders, inadequate securing of stanchions, poor maintenance, and lack of clear identification.
