Inspections on behalf of OCIMF members, carried out by OCIMF-accredited Master Mariners and Chief Engineers across tankers, barges, bulk carriers and offshore units.
SIRE 2.0 inspectionsOCIMF Ship Inspection Report Exchange inspections under the enhanced, risk-based SIRE 2.0 regime.
The Ship Inspection Report Exchange (SIRE) is OCIMF's tanker vetting programme. SIRE 2.0 is the enhanced, risk-based version: it draws on the vessel, its crew and its management, uses a digital tablet-based question set with supporting photographs, and produces a more focused report. Our accredited inspectors attend the vessel, verify condition and compliance against the question library, and submit the report to the OCIMF database.
Pre-vetting inspectionsMock inspections that identify and close compliance gaps before a formal vetting.
A pre-vetting inspection is run to the same standard as a formal SIRE or RISQ vetting, but before the real thing. We identify observations and compliance gaps while there is still time to put them right, so the vessel is well prepared and avoids a negative result that could affect its ability to trade.
Bulk carrier inspectionsDry-bulk vetting inspections using the RISQ questionnaire, for RightShip and OCIMF members.
Dry-bulk vetting inspections carried out with the RightShip Inspection and Assessment (RISQ) questionnaire. Performed for RightShip and OCIMF members, they assess the condition, safety and management of bulk carriers before a fixture is agreed.
Barge inspections (BIRE and EBIS)European barge inspections under the BIRE and EBIS schemes.
Inspections of inland and coastal barges under the Barge Inspection Report Exchange (BIRE) and the European Barge Inspection Scheme (EBIS). They cover the vessel's condition, cargo systems and management against the relevant scheme's questionnaire.

Inspections under OCIMF's Offshore Vessel Inspection Database (OVID) for offshore support vessels such as platform supply and anchor-handling vessels. The inspection assesses the vessel against the OVID questionnaire and uploads the report for charterers to review.

Inspections carried out on behalf of flag state administrations to verify that a vessel meets the flag's statutory and safety requirements. The findings support the flag state's oversight of the vessels on its register.
Surveys and consultancy
Independent, experienced advice and attendance for owners, charterers and buyers throughout an operation.
Pre-purchase, delivery and charter surveysCondition surveys that protect owners, buyers and charterers at handover.
Independent condition surveys at the points where risk changes hands. A pre-purchase survey establishes a vessel's true condition before a sale; on-hire and off-hire surveys record condition and bunker quantities at the start and end of a charter, protecting owners and charterers from later disputes.
Draught surveysIndependent draught surveys to determine the weight of bulk cargo loaded or discharged.
A draught survey establishes the weight of cargo loaded or discharged by measuring the vessel's displacement before and after the operation, corrected for trim, list, water density and the ballast, fresh water and bunkers on board. Carried out to the UN ECE code, it gives shippers, receivers and charterers an independent cargo figure and a certificate of quantity.
Cargo supervisionIndependent supervision and attendance of cargo operations.
Independent attendance and supervision of loading and discharge operations. We monitor quantities, condition and handling, and record what happens, so that any shortage, damage or dispute can be dealt with on solid evidence.
Incident investigationInvestigation of incidents and accidents on behalf of owners, charterers and managers.
Attendance and investigation following an incident or accident, on behalf of owners, charterers or managers. We gather evidence, establish the sequence of events and the contributing factors, and set out findings that support insurers, legal advisers and future prevention.
